Back to the beginning

A close friend of mine told me she had searched online for how to be happy in a place you don't exactly want to be. When she couldn't find anything that fit that category, she thought this might be an opportunity for me to blog about that very topic. She knows me very well, as we've been close friends for almost ten years. I hope you will get to know me and I will get to know you as I post and you comment.

My title, back to the beginning, refers to some events from this year, 2013. Three years ago, moving to Midland, Texas, was a new beginning for me and my family. We had decided to relocate to Texas, after my husband graduated from medical school in Nevada. It was a big decision and a leap of faith to be in Texas, especially for me having never set foot here. But, the money was good, the job was good, and we even had some family in the state.

Fast forward exactly three years. We're ready to leave the Lone Star State and try something new, so we decide to accept a new job for my husband in Wyoming. After a multistate move and all the difficulty associated with that, the new job goes away in less than two months of being there. (I will spare you the awful details, let me just say, there are some truly horrible people in the world). The only logical thing to do was to move back to Texas, specifically Midland, Texas.

I will go into further details on why Midland, Texas is not my ideal place to live, and why I wanted to move somewhere else. For today, though, I wanted to give you a little background and to reach out to anyone who feels less than enthusiastic about their current place of residence. We are not alone! And we can do certain things to feel better about where we are in life. A lot of how I feel better is to be grateful for small things each day. At the end of each post, I will leave you with a simple thing to be grateful for that day. Today, my suggestion is to be grateful for the sun. If you have a sunny day, go outside and catch a little sun on your face. If it's rainy or cloudy where you are today, check out these amazing facts about the sun. http://space-facts.com/the-sun/
